About Dr. Teneka Barcelo

Dr. Teneka is a Small Animal Veterinarian from the twin island of Trinidad and Tobago who earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with honors at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus in 2020.

She has loved animals for as long as she can remember. She decided she wanted to become a Veterinarian at just 12 years old, and that passion has only grown stronger over the years. Dr. Teneka is extremely passionate about helping pet owners understand their pets’ behaviour and health so they can feel confident caring for them.

She returned to the University in 2022 as a Small Animal Clinician and Teaching Assistant, where she worked with experienced veterinarians, managed emergency and critical cases, and enjoyed mentoring students.

Dr. Teneka has also worked in several private practices on the twin island caring for dogs and cats, gaining experience in a wide range of cases and developing a gentle, thoughtful approach to patient care.

Even though she’s severely allergic to cats, she absolutely adores them — she has four back home in Trinidad, including her oldest, who’s an impressive 21 years old! Yes, human years!
